THE CONTRAS bring you the best music from across the decades and create a whirlwind of dance-indie-reggae-mod in a 2Tone-ska style. Selecting any genre of music and creating high energy versions of classic pop and rock songs, they perform crowd pleasing, stylised versions of your favourite music.
Those educated boffins who know their history will recognise that the name is a thematic allegory and a complex reference to Nicaraguan counter-revolutionary history, but it was chosen as it's snappy and contradictory - typically 2-Tone then! Adding in their own unique tracks in the traditional 2-Tone style of Selecter, The Beat, Specials, Madness, etc and the ska-punk of Stranglers, Clash, SLF, Ruts and other classic punk era icons, combined with an array of hits from the 50's to today's chart smashes, they are a great outfit to get the place rocking. Tracks covered include: Gangsters - faithful cover of the Specials mega-hit... All the Small Things - massive dance version of the Blink 182 smash... Nice & Sleazy - a reggae-ska based version of the Stranglers classic... Poison Ivy - the adopted mod favourite... Tom Hark - Boro fan favourite. "In 86, we nearly died", etc... Don't You Forget About Me - a great ska version of the Simple Minds epic... Tainted Love - Jangling upbeat version of this well respected track... One Step Beyond - nothing more to say. Get dancing... Won't Get Fooled Again - faithful to the original... The Israelites - crazy version of the 1950's original... Pigbag - another one for the Teessiders and Leicester City fans... All About That Bass - got to be heard to be believed... 500 Miles - a reimagining of this old Scottish love song... Town Called Malice - guaranteed to get your feet tapping... Boys Don't Cry - upbeat homage to the lonely Cure classic... Staring at the Rude Boys - 2Tone version of the massive Ruts hit... Hope this gives a flavour of what the band give you. Check out the gig list and come along for an entertaining and furious night of danceable indie-ska-pop! |
